Achievement competitive advantages of commercial banks using the mergers and acquisitions

This article contains the analysis of the current state of the banking sector in Russia; the analysis of the main competitive advantages of large banks over the medium and small ones. The article also contains the examples of the most competitive advantages of foreign banks over the domestic ones. The basic direction of development of the banking sector and improvement of the competitiveness of commercial banks in the current circumstances in the form of mergers and acquisitions have been revealed. The pros and contras of consolidation have been examine; national and international experience of mergers and acquisitions has been studied, and the statistics of such operations has been provided. The necessity of conscious regulation and support by the government and the Central Bank of Russia have been proved.
