The adequacy of such actions, their efficiency, promptness and timeliness will allow assuming a positive outcome from an emergency situation. One of the state’s general priorities is the recognition of the priority of the universal values of human life and health. This is reflected in the main directions of the state policy in the field of education. The core idea of modern educational standards is expressed in the implementation of certain competencies, which are considered as the readiness and ability of the student to solve various kinds of professional tasks, to apply the gained knowledge and skills in a specific situation. In modern educational standards, a university graduate in pedagogical areas should be prepared to ensure the protection of the life and health of students. The formation of this competence takes place at the university while studying such disciplines as “Life Safety” and “Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge”. However, the degree of preparedness of future specialists for practical first aid is in question. According to numerous studies, the vast majority of the population is not ready to provide first aid to victims. The article presents the results of the study of knowledge and practical skills of students to provide first aid. The purpose of the study is to theoretically and experimentally assess the knowledge and practical skills of students to provide first aid to the victim. The analysis was carried out on the basis of the protocol of the stage, which was a list of possible erroneous actions when performing one or another first aid technique for which penalty points were assigned, provided that an erroneous action was committed. Data processing was carried out by identifying the relative frequency of each error and further ranking. The results obtained can be used by teachers of the basics of life safety in order to reduce the level of errors made, improve the quality of the educational process.
