The article identifies the main aspects of language education in a multidisciplinary university. The relevance of the study is due to the rapid pace of development of society and the education system, which requires new methods of education, focused on the formation of a qualified person, ready to interact and make independent decisions in a constantly changing environment of uncertainty. The article reveals the methodological aspects of domestic and foreign experience in organizing training lessons. The tasks of foreign language education are listed, the purpose of which is the development of the learner’s personality in order to prepare him or her as a moral person for the mutual understanding of peoples. The methodological basis is self-determination theory proposed by psychologists E. Deci and R. Ryan. The authors emphasize the necessity to provide speech and thinking activity, functionality and novelty in each lesson with respect to the individuals’ personalization. It is stated that educational motivation can be developed by means of communicative technologies in order to provide speech activity intensification. An example of speech material used in a practical lesson in the discipline “Foreign language” for the direction “Technosphere safety” is presented. Recommendations are given for the activating methods of self-determination in the context of language education by means of communicative technologies.
