The article deals with the features of return migration in the Central Asian region. The main aim of this study is to identify the gender characteristics of the flow of returning migrants from Russia to Central Asian countries, and to determine the consequences of this type of migration for both sending and receiving countries, as well as migrants in the context of gender differences. The results of the study are based on the analysis of statistical data of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation on migration flows to Central Asian states. The study considers issues related to the dynamics of return migration flows from Russia to Central Asian countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, which are key donors of labor force for the Russian Federation. The multidirectional dynamics of migration flows is determined in the country context. The analysis of the gender structure of returning migrants shows that the proportion of men significantly exceeds the proportion of women in flows from Russia to Central Asian countries. It generally corresponds to the gender structure of the immigration flow. At the same time, there are certain patterns of migration from Russia to Central Asian countries, including those caused by the gender characteristics of the migration flow. They are related to the prevailing forms of migration, the strategy of foreigners regarding the directions of migration, the scale of violations of migration legislation. The significance of the research lies in the fact that the main conclusions can be used in the formation of migration policy by the countries of the region, taking into account the dynamics of return migration and the propensities of the population to return to their homeland. The developed recommendations can be used to identify new directions for further study of the issues of return migration as one of the trends in the development of societies in Central Asian countries.
