Knowledge is always associated with abstract modeling of reality. The cognitive process in the implementation of the stages of identification, research, and use of traces, representing an idealized model of any circumstance under study, concentrates the accumulated scientific knowledge and displays the patterns of functioning of real objects. An idealized model can be the display of either a criminal event or truth-seeking activity in the process of solving and investigating crimes. The simulated circumstances reveal to the researcher the invariable multiplicity of the objects involved; the constant variability of their characteristics and parameters in the process of mutual influence; their frequent merger into a single target system; possible periodic complications of the space-time structure; the inevitable hierarchy of interactions and interacting objects. The foundation of successful work to detect traces of events related to crimes is the reality of their existence. At the same © Карепанов time, the events under investigation, including those related to crimes, are extremely diverse. Therefore, practical activities to detect traces must necessarily be preceded and accompanied by a certain mental work, the process of cognition (primarily modeling). The essence of modeling is a process in which the mechanism of change of the trace-perceiving object (nature, direction, degree of transformation, etc.) is first established. On this basis, abstract inverse transformations are carried out. The ability of the mental model to be an analogue of the original allows the transfer of reliable knowledge about other structural elements and their connections to the objects under study. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that the transformation of knowledge from probabilistic to reliable in the retrospective model of the event is associated with the verification of logical consequences during the detection, research, and use of traces. When studying modeling issues, today it is no longer possible to ignore the possibilities of information technology, the emergence of new technology, new software products. Based on the presented judgments, relying on already known scientific knowledge, analytical generalizations, comparisons of studied facts and sentences, clarification of individual details, it can be confidently argued that the logical and information model of the event and its trace picture remains an effective means of cognition.
