Coping behavior is the ability to regulate your emotional state in stressful situations, which is a factor in effective adaptation to new conditions and life difficulties. This article discusses the theoretical justification for the formation of coping behavior among first-year students through an adaptation training seminar. Modern researchers focus on the analysis of classical coping strategies. At the same time, there are not enough researchers focusing on proactive coping, on anticipation. Due to the fact that educational institutions are responsible for the emotional state of their students, the socio-psychological service needs to ensure an adaptation period that provides for active adaptation, inclusion in training, group work, which contributes to the creation of coping behavior. The fundamental difference between coping behavior and psychological protection is to focus on reality. As part of the study, we developed a program of an adaptation training seminar that provides for the formation of proactive coping behavior. On the basis of the autonomous non-profit organization of vocational education Moscow Regional Humanitarian and Social College, an empirical study was conducted, diagnosing communicative and organizational inclinations and proactive coping behavior level of teenagers in control and experimental (participants of the adaptation training seminar) groups. In the course of work on the subject of coping behavior we used analytical research of psychological and pedagogical literature, educational and methodological base, as well as empirical methods — testing, qualitative and quantitative data processing, methods of mathematical statistics: Spearman’s rank correlation r s , Mann — Whitney U-criterion. Conclusions. The study confirmed the hypothesis that firstyear students who have undergone the adaptation training seminar are characterised by future-oriented coping behavior strategies that are interrelated with the communicative and organizational inclinations of students.
