Successful socialization of students, especially at the initial stages of education, significantly depends on the developed communicative sphere of students. Experts note that the effectiveness of the educational process at the university, other things being equal, is influenced by the individual characteristics of students, including character and temperament. At the same time, physical culture and sports have an exceptional ability to create social contacts and form communication skills. Studies have confirmed that students with extensive physical education and sports experience outperform their classmates in terms of communication, sociability and friendliness. The article presents the study of the communicative characteristics (type of character, communication style, sociability) of first-year students in the process of long-term observation (2008-2023). The work also shows the assessment by students of the impact of physical education on interpersonal relationships during the period of study at the university. It has been established that over the past time, character types have appeared that were not previously identified: every fifth student (18.6 %) is characterized by the ability to look at things in a new way, individuality, egoism, stubbornness. One in ten students (9.8%) has a strong but unobtrusive character, almost impossible to convince. The majority of respondents (68.1%) are moderately aggressive, they have a reasonable ambition, and they treat criticism kindly. The dynamics of an increase in the number of overly peaceful students who are insufficiently confident in their own abilities and capabilities (26.1%) was noted. The largest number of students (40.7%) are sociable, sometimes even to excess, curious, talkative, and want to be the center of attention. The authors reveal that the positive role of physical culture in improving interpersonal communication of students is confirmed by the opinion of students themselves and remains significant throughout the entire period of study. The results obtained indicate that the formation and development of the student youth’s experience of social interaction is necessary, among other things, for the effective implementation of future professional activities.
