THE SPECIFICS OF SELECTION OF LEXEMES — MARKERS OF FRANCOPHONE CULTURAL IDENTITY

Annotation:

The article deals with description of the process of selecting lexemes that reflect the Francophone cultural identity. Drilling the usage of these units can ensure the improvement of lexical proficiency of senior students at a linguistic university and acquaint them with Francophone picture of the world. The subject of the study is basics, sources, and principles of selection of lexemes — markers of Francophone cultural identity. The objective of the research is to justify and describe a scientifically determined procedure for selecting culturally marked lexemes that ensure the improvement of students’ lexical skills; create a basis for working with them in order to form students’ cultural self-determination and make them aware of the differences in the mentality and worldview of French speakers in different countries. Research methods and methodology are based on theoretical analysis and develop an innovative approach to determine the content of vocabulary in the process of teaching the French language, aimed at overcoming the difficulties in studying the Francophone picture of the world and its cultural diversity. Results of the study are the parameters for the selection of lexemes — markers of Francophone cultural identity; an algorithm for working with them to ensure the improvement of students’ lexical skills based on a multicultural approach. The author gives an example of the analysis of lexemes of one of the significant Francophone concepts in various French-language corpora, with relevant conclusions about the similarities/differences in its understanding by French speakers with different cultural background. The methodology for selecting lexemes can be applied in the process of developing the lexical competence of Russian students at linguistic universities. The article may be of interest to researchers of problems of teaching French vocabulary, specialists in the sphere of intercultural communication, and multicultural approach. The material of the article is promising in terms of developing cases for working with Francophone concepts through the analysis of lexemes — markers of Francophone cultural identity, to prepare students for participation in the dialogue of cultures.
