Annotation: Development, education, and training of young people capable of becoming a part of the complex transformation process and ready to fully participate in shaping the global intellectual, cultural, and economic agenda is a priority of contemporary Russian society. Research over recent decades has argued the importance of selecting young people demonstrating strong aptitude for learning foreign languages who can contribute to this process. The paper elucidates the specifics of preparing students majoring in Linguistics (specialization: Theory and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures) to work with linguistically gifted pupils while training them for a Foreign Language Olympiad. To achieve the aims of the study the analysis of psychological and pedagogical research was employed, as well as the updating, selection, systematization and synthesis of best practices in professional foreign language training for Linguistics students. The empirical base comprised collections of Olympiad case materials in foreign languages. The subject-specific Foreign Language Olympiad is the most popular and rapidly expanding form for developing linguistically gifted learners. Professional training of Linguistics students majoring in Theory and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures involves updating the content of existing courses and curricula together with introducing new courses. Moreover, it is required to revise the formats and teaching methods in order to meet the heightened demands placed on students majoring in language programs who will be working with gifted students within a school-university partnership. This article presents an analysis of the authors’ assignments for the Interregional Subject Olympiad in English organized by Kazan Federal University in 2020 and 2025. The tasks are developed by a team of faculty members and Linguistics students from the Higher School of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies of Kazan Federal University.
