Annotation: Digitalization in the field of higher education opens up wide opportunities for developing and improving methods of teaching foreign languages. This article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the possibilities of using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in teaching a foreign language (English) in higher school. There is a growing role of AI as an effective learning tool that affects various components of the language education system. The authors consider separate AI tools and technologies that can increase students’ motivation and engagement in foreign language classes. The stages of working with some resources and platforms for developing various types of speech skills are described in detail. The main advantages and methods of working with educational platforms for achieving learning goals and the formation of professional foreign language competence are listed. The authors highlight some disadvantages of integrating AI into the educational process that can be encountered in practical classes. Specific examples of the introduction of AI technologies for the formation of foreign language communicative competence are shown. The article describes the ways of using language platforms to increase motivation to learn a foreign language, and suggests options for organizing the educational process of mastering the disciplines “Foreign language” and “Foreign language in the professional field” in a non-linguistic university. Considerable attention is paid to the analysis of the most effective techniques for mastering professional vocabulary and terminology using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The review of modern tools and consideration of the most effective language platforms confirm the need to use AI technologies to optimize and make language learning more effective. The importance of maintaining a balance between digital means and traditional forms of work and interaction with students in an educational environment is emphasized. It is concluded that the use of these technologies contributes both to the formation of all types of speech skills and to the modeling of a personalized approach to teaching foreign languages.
