Annotation: This article provides a review of the educational and methodical manual "Assessment materials for conducting the testing of knowledge, skills and abilities of a teacher-defectologist to work with children with mental retardation" The manual provides a brief summary of the specialized disciplines for training defectologists to work with children with mental retardation, as well as tests on the main topics and professional tasks In essence, the chapters and sections of the manual provide suggestions for structuring the specialized content. The practical professional tasks presented in the manual can be considered as a means of developing not only competences, but also the work activities of a teacher-defectologist. The presence of test answers in the manual allows students to use this material for preparation for classes and conducting control and evaluation procedures. Teachers can use them to create test assignments, including in electronic form. The author's team concludes that the use of the proposed pe- dagogical tools in the process of training specialized personnel will ensure that students and trainees acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to work with children with mental retardation. The manual has been prepared for developers of basic professional educational programs in the fields of 44.03.03 “Special Defectological Education”, 44.03.02 “Psychological and Pedagogical Education”, and 44.03.01 “Pedagogical Education”. It can be recommended for use in the system of additional professional education.
