This research article addresses the issue of risk management development at Russian enterprises. The aim of the study is to identify problems hindering the development of domestic risk management (using the example of enterprises in the Rostov region). The object of the study is risk management practice. The subject is the challenges of developing risk management at enterprises. Research hypothesis suggests that endogenous factors significantly influence the success of risk management in an organization. In particular, one of the problems associated with insufficient risk management development is the lack of personnel preparedness for risk and the need for change. The study’s methodological framework combines theoretical developments in crisis management, statistical analysis, sociological analysis, and the index method. Reports from the Rostov Region Arbitration Court (2020-2024) are analyzed. The results of a questionnaire survey conducted in 2024 among employees of organizations in the Rostov Region are examined. The study identified groups of ordinary employees, organization managers, and department managers, and assessed the attitudes of these groups toward risk and change within organizations. The study’s results show that, statistically, monitoring and bankruptcy proceedings are most frequently used. Risk management practices are extremely rare. In the overwhelming majority of cases, after analyzing the enterprise’s situation during the monitoring procedure, the bankruptcy trustee concludes that bankruptcy proceedings (i.e., liquidation) are necessary. One reason for this situation may be the underdevelopment of risk management competence. According to sociological research, department heads are the most risk-tolerant (only 8% are riskaverse). The highest level of risk aversion is recorded among rank-and-file employees. The data demonstrate organizations’ reluctance to take risks and the underdevelopment of risk management activities. Bankruptcy management is displacing risk management practices. The development of successful risk management practices is possible through the development of risk management competence among personnel. |
