Being a part of the economic system, the credit reflects the problems of social development, which cannot be considered isolated from the state of the economy as a whole. But can the credit be the cause of the economic crises? Are loans — good or evil as a matter of fact? And what is their impact on everyone and the economy as a whole? It is shown that the credit due to its objective characteristics can have a significant impact on the economic process. The possibilities of the Russian economy in modern conditions are marked, and the threats that confront these possibilities are identified. The arguments which prove the functional limits of the existing country’s banking credit system are given. Positive and negative aspects of consumer lending are analyzed. Measures to minimize the inherent destructive credit quality and reduce loan dependence are proposed.
