This research paper aims at determining the prerequisites of developing THE foreign language grammatical competence among non-linguistic university students. The discrepancies arisen as a result of inconsistency between the state requirements to the results of the university teaching-learning and the non-linguistic university directions in relation to methodological support of compulsory English language course, between commissioning of the social services in foreign language teaching and the opportunities of non-linguistic university students, between their capacities and the foreign language grammar teaching methods used by teachers precondition the topicality of current research. The need of a new methodology of foreign language grammatical competence development with reference to the non-linguistic university students is justified. The main methodological concepts on the subject of current research are clarified (grammatical competence, autonomous learning, autonomy, language education informatization, information communication environment). Research methods used to achieve the aim pursued are described. Those methods are as follows: theoretical and empirical research. Due to inability discovered of the students to independently organize the foreign language learning process whilst doing a compulsory course called ‘Foreign Language’ (preparation for the classroom-based lessons, for the continuous formative and summative assessment, etc.), the implementation of autonomous foreign language grammar learning becomes a need to design the students’ learning activities. The findings obtained allow revealing the prerequisites of developing the foreign language grammatical competence among the non-linguistic university students in the context of language informatization and autonomous learning. The implications for future research on fostering foreign language grammatical competence within autonomous learning are outlined. Among propositions are some attempts to methodologically organize the prerequisites described and justified with the purpose to resolve the discrepancies arisen in the area of higher education. Scientific significance of the research is to determine the prerequisites of developing foreign language grammatical competence among the non-linguistic university students within autonomous learning.
