Annotation:

The article deals with the methodological features of teaching English to the third age due to the trends of the modern world: humanization and lifelong learning. According to the Concept of Long-term Socio-economic development of the Russian Federation, the average life expectancy will increase to 75 years by 2025. Lifelong learning Concept provides an opportunity for people of the third age to carry out educational activities throughout their lives. The purpose of this study is to test teaching methods and to generalize the experience of teaching English to the third age in the Sovetsky district of Samara. The survey of the respondents identified the factors of participation in educational activities. The article deals with teaching methods aimed at activating and stimulating the cognitive activity in people of the third age. We emphasize the role of goal-setting in the process of teaching third age people and the selection of the content of standard tasks that stimulate speech activity. The research methods are a comprehensive analysis, including socio-demographic, socio-gerontological, sociological, socio-psychological approaches, as well as sociological methods of obtaining, processing and interpreting information, including the method of observation and conversation. The results are the following: the successful study of English by third age people within the framework of lifelong learning concept, specially organized pedagogical conditions and teaching methods are necessary, taking into account the educational motivation of third age people, their gender characteristics, previous life and educational experience.
