ARCHETYPE — TOTEM — TABOO TRIAD IN THE PRISON SUBCULTURE

The article is devoted to the analysis of the “archetype — totem — taboo” triad existing in the prison subculture. It is shown that the prison subculture is a socio-regulatory system that spreads its influence on persons serving sentences of imprisonment. In conditions of isolation from society and the involvement of a person in the prison subculture, they experience a constant lack of objective information flow about the surrounding reality, their horizons narrow, primitivize their needs, their intelligence decreases, and their value orientation changes. The prison subculture is characterized by such phenomena inherent in primitive cultures as the presence of a complex system of prison totems and taboos, which is a manifestation of a complex of criminal archetypes. At the same time, a common property of primitive and prison societies is a primitive, magical perception of the world. The purpose of the work is to assess the significance and role of the triad “archetype — totem — taboo” inherent in the prison subculture in shaping the personality of a convict. The general principles of the formation of prison totems and taboos are revealed. There is given a list of archetypes that are realized in the behavior of the carriers of the prison subculture and are manifested through the system of totems and taboos. The article examines some types of prison totems, in accordance with which prisoners form their behavior in terms of serving a sentence. The classification of prison taboos is given. It is shown that various types of magic (imitative, contagious, etc.) play a special role in the formation of prison taboos. The practical significance of the article lies in the comprehension and analysis of the processes taking place in the prison subculture with the possibility of subsequent management decisions aimed at combating the prison subculture.
