The modern ecological situation in the world and in Russia is imperceptibly, but rather rapidly deteriorating every day, which negatively affects the life and health of people. The preventive measures taken by individual states for the deterioration of the environment could have a greater effect in the absence of political differences and the development of a unified model for the development of civilization, which was laid down in international documents in the 90s of the XX century. Based on the unity of economic, ecological, social and institutional aspects of the development of society, the Concept of Sustainable Development provides for various indicators, among which ecological education, ecological consciousness and ecological culture stand out. The obligation to organize and develop the system of ecological education in Russia is normatively enshrined in the current ecological legislation, however, despite the by-laws and strategic documents adopted in order to detail the legislative provisions, as well as individual ecological programs being implemented, it still cannot be said that a full-fledged system of Russian ecological education has developed and brings positive results for sustainable development. This is confirmed by the opinion of representatives of the younger generation of Russians studying in agricultural universities in Russia, which was obtained as a result of a social survey and analyzed for research purposes. In general, the surveyed students show a great interest in ecological education, over the course of 10—15 years they have developed an understanding of the need to prevent an ecological catastrophe, developed a civic position on solving ecological problems through active environmental and social activities and the promotion of environmental ideas.
