The article presents the basics of the pirouette training methodology aimed at improving the turns of gymnasts of primary school age at the training stage. The method of pirouette training proposed by us includes 4 blocks of exercises, such as: “ring” turn, “panche” turn and fouette turns. Examples of lead-in and simulation exercises are given, which include exercises with equipment (bench — development of coordination and vestibular apparatus and fitness rubber — development of the amplitude and speed of swing movements in a turn). In the process of teaching young gymnasts pirouettes, special attention was paid to the development of balance and stability on the supporting leg, the development of strength, speed and amplitude of swing movements, as well as the development of coordination for the relationship of the gymnast’s body shape with the speed of rotation. Criteria for evaluating pirouette training (qualitative indicators) have been developed. The effectiveness of the pirouette training technique was assessed by tests of qualitative indicators of performing basic turns: “ring” turn, “Penche” turn (panche), Fouette (Passé), Fouette (in a split position with assistance). Positive dynamics of indicators among gymnasts is noted in all control exercises. The greatest increase is noted in the tests of the “ring” turn and the “Penche” turn. The data obtained give grounds to believe that the exercises we use, aimed at teaching pirouettes, have a positive effect on improving the indicators of coordination abilities, the vestibular apparatus, increasing the amplitude of movements of gymnasts, which is the basis for the success of the entire competitive program as a whole. A number of recommendations are proposed that must be taken into account when conducting the training process with young gymnasts, namely: inclusion of a set of exercises of the 1st section of pirouette training into the lessons, and only after mastering it, sections 2, 3, 4 can be included in the training process; pirouette preparation is best done in the middle of a workout after general physical preparation and stretching; the use of an individual approach, with a constant increase in the number of repetitions and range of motion.
