The relevance of the topic raised in the article is explained by the fact that in the context of the application of economic sanctions against Russia by the West and the policy of de-dollarization announced by the Russian government, the accumulation of savings in US dollars and euros, which has become traditional for many Russians, is now associated with serious risks. The Russians are faced with the question of finding alternative investment tools, one of which is the acquisition of gold investment coins. The authors carry out a SWOT analysis of investing in gold coins. The strengths are the opportunity for the investor to quickly understand the topic of investment gold coins; small spread and transparent pricing. Weaknesses include a long investment horizon; the problem of the safety of gold investment coins; the presence of dealers selling coins at affordable prices only in megacities. The authors demonstrate the opportunities provided by investing in gold coins. The fact of an almost complete absence of counterfeit in the market of gold investment coins and a change in the policy of the Russian state regarding investing in gold are noted. Main scientific results are: an averaging strategy to minimize risks and maximize profits is proposed; a critical analysis of the main gold investment coins recommended for purchase is carried out. Investors are advised to have a share of investment gold coins in the investment portfolio of 5—10 % by the age of 30, bringing it to the pre-retirement age up to 40—50 %.
