The relevance of this study is dictated by the rapid growth of virtual reality (VR) technologies and their widespread adoption in education. Therefore, the scientific community is faced with the task of substantiating the effectiveness of their use in foreign language learning. This study aims to explore the didactic potential of virtual reality technologies for developing foreign-language communicative competence in students from non-linguistic majors. Research objectives are as follows: (1) to examine the qualitative uniqueness of VR technology as a didactic tool for improving the educational process in a modern university; (2) to study and evaluate the experience and prospects of using educational resources and software related to modern VR technology in developing students’ foreign language communicative competence, as well as to assessthe effectiveness of their implementation in order to improve the quality of teaching foreign languages. Research methods used are theoretical analysis of scientific literature and analysis and generalization of practical pedagogical experience. The study’s results demonstrate that the didactic potential of VR technology in foreign language teaching lies in creating a realistic language environment, enhancing student motivation, individualizing the content and process of learning, and enhancing interactivity. The potential for widespread adoption is limited by the high cost of VR equipment, potential health risks for students with long-term use, and the lack of scientific development of VR technology in language teaching. It is concluded that with scientifically sound organizational and methodological support, VR technology can serve as an additional didactic tool, increasing the effectiveness of developing foreign language communicative competence in students in non-linguistic majors.
