The aim of the article is to present a model
for the formation of foreign language media competence (FLMC)
of schoolchildren based on the Content and Language Integrated
Learning (CLIL) approach in the context of supplementary
education. The main content of the article consists
of a theoretical substantiation of four components of FLMC
(motivational-value, cognitive-analytical, operational-activity,
reflexive-ethical) and the didactic principles of their formation through CLIL and project-based activities. Based on
the analysis of Russian and foreign research on media education
(A. V. Fedorov, D. Buckingham, R. Hobbs), language didactics
(N. D. Galskova, M. Byram) and CLIL (D. Coyle, C. Dalton-
Puffer, A. Llinares), the structure of FLMC for adolescents
aged 12-16 has been clarified. The scientific novelty lies in clarifying
the structure of FLMC for adolescents aged 12-16 and
in substantiating the synthesis of CLIL, project-based activities
and Web 2.0 technologies as a way to bridge the gap between
media and language training, which arises due to the lack
of systematic integration of these areas in the practice of supplementary
education. In the course of the research, the didactic
potential of CLIL (the “4Cs” model) for the development
of FLMC has been identified; it has been substantiated that
the system of supplementary education provides optimal conditions
for the integration of media and language due to voluntariness,
flexibility and practice-orientedness; a model for the formation
of FLMC (in the form of a diagram and a text description
of the blocks) has been developed and presented. The obtained
results can be used in the design of English language training
modules in the system of supplementary education, as well as
in the practice of media clubs and language studios. The proposed
model and methodology develop schoolchildren’s ability
to critically analyze and create media content in English, thereby
contributing to the development of their functional literacy
and readiness to live in a global information society. |
