This article examines the development of professional
competencies in foreign students majoring in economics
at Russian universities. The relevance of the study is driven
by the increasing number of foreign students and the existing
contradiction between the alignment of economic disciplines
with the national economic system and the students’ insufficient
sociocultural adaptation. Based on an analysis of the scientific
literature, the authors systematize the main challenges faced
by foreign students: language barriers, differences in educational
systems, difficulties in sociocultural adaptation, and
insufficient familiarity with the national economic environment.
Drawing on a system-activity and competency-based approach,
as well as a summary of the experience of the Volga Polytechnic
Institute (branch) of Volgograd State Technical University
from 2023 to 2025, the authors propose a two-component model
for improving the effectiveness of the educational process.
The model integrates adaptation and support measures (organizational
support, individual work with mentors, educational
work) and professional development technologies (case studies,
business games, simulations, project work, training, gamification,
digital platforms). The scientific novelty lies in substantiating
the relationship between the successful adaptation of foreign
students and the ability to fully utilize innovative teaching methods:
the adaptation component is not an accessory, but a necessary
condition for effective professional training. The practical
significance of the study lies in the potential for the proposed
model to be used by other universities implementing educational
programs for international students. The results of the study
confirm that the integrated use of adaptation and development
tools reduces cognitive and linguistic barriers, accelerates
students` integration into the academic environment, and fosters
sustainable professional competencies that are in demand
in the Russian and international economies. |
