CHARACTERISTICS OF SCHOOL FUNCTIONS IN SCHOOL LEAVERS’ PROFESSIONAL SELF-IDENTIFICATION (ON THE EXAMPLE OF SCHOOLS IN TOGLLATTI)

Annotation: The relevance of this topic stems from the need to improve school functions in assessing the professional self-determination of young people. The subject of this study is the school’s role in the professional self-determination of schoolchildren, which includes preparation for professional choice and assistance in choosing a profession. The purpose of the study is to characterize the assessment of school functions in the professional self-determination of school leavers. The empirical basis of the study consists of a survey of Togliatti school leavers (N = 2437), conducted in 2026. The results of a similar survey from 2019 were used to assess the effectiveness of these functions. The study’s hypothesis was that the assessment of school functions in the professional self-determination of school leavers depends on the school’s influence on the development of professional interests. The results of the study show that Togliatti schools assist the majority of high school students in developing their readiness for professional choice. This is reflected in the development of scientific inclinations, independence, and hard work. Sixty percent of school leavers acknowledge the influence of school on their professional interests, while 40% of respondents hold the opposite opinion. There are differences in responses to questions about faculty choice, career choice, intention to achieve career goals, and awareness of working conditions, favoring those who acknowledge school’s influence. A comparison of the 2026 survey results with previous studies shows a positive trend in school leavers ‘ awareness of working conditions in their chosen profession. The number of school leavers who believe career guidance at school is systematic and facilitates an informed career choice has increased. The practical significance of these results lies in the organization of monitoring efforts to improve the effectiveness of school career guidance.
