The transformation of practical teacher training
is a central direction in China’s modernization of teacher
education. Its relevance stems from the need to bridge
the gap between academic theorizing and the dynamic realities
of mass schooling amid digitalization and global competition.
This study identifies and substantiates five trends shaping
practical training in Chinese pedagogical universities.
The methodological framework comprised a systemstructural
approach and A. O. Karpov’s concept of generative
assessment, which shifts focus from normative compliance
to the learner’s ability to apply acquired knowledge.
At the operational level, the study employs content analysis
of Chinese Ministry of Education regulatory documents
(2011-2025), comparative analysis, and case studies
of leading pedagogical universities. Reliability is ensured
through cross-source analysis and consistency between
macroand micro-level findings. The analysis reveals five
interrelated trends: institutionalization of practical training
via the three‑pronged U‑G‑S (University–Government–
School) model; digitalization and adoption of virtual reality
technologies; a turn from instrumental control toward
formative assessment; integration of values education with
vocational training; and a localized internationalization
strategy synthesizing global competencies with national identity. In conclusion, the study substantiates a shift
in China’s teacher education model from qualification logic
toward a competence‑and‑values paradigm. The findings
offer a conceptual framework for comparative research
and the design of teacher education programs. |
