The article presents the results of a study on anxiety
in primary school children living in urban and rural areas
of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The study focused on situational,
personal, academic, self-evaluative, and interpersonal
anxiety, as well as the structure of their interrelations. The aim
of the work is to identify and compare the levels of situational, personal, academic, self-evaluative, and interpersonal anxiety
in children from different environmental conditions. The hypothesis
assumed that rural schoolchildren demonstrate higher scores
on a number of anxiety types (personal, self-evaluative, academic)
due to the greater publicity and limited social circle characteristic
of the rural environment. The study involved 60 children
(30 from the city and 30 from the countryside). Three methods
were used: Spielberger–Khanin Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Prikhozhan
Anxiety Scale, and the “Non-existent Animal” drawing
test (M. Z. Dukarevich). Statistical analysis included Mann–
Whitney U test. The analysis of the results showed that anxiety
levels differ between children from different environments.
Significant differences were found on the scales of personal
and self-evaluative anxiety, with rural schoolchildren demonstrating
higher scores. More than half of the children from rural
areas have a high level of personal anxiety, which is twice the rate
of urban children. At the same time, situational anxiety in urban
children is less pronounced, which may indicate the presence
of hidden fears that are not always detected by standard methods
but can be identified using projective drawing tests. |
