Currently, in Russia and abroad, development of the economy of shared consumption is actively progressing, which has acquired the most popular concept as the sharing economy. Its main characteristics are that many companies allow people to rent, lend, or donate goods, services, skills, and information. A number of researchers define the sharing economy as a social model where there is a conscious rejection of private property in favor of collective property, and this rejection is not associated with a lack of money, but with a desire to expand their capabilities. It should be taken into account that this development was triggered by the digitalization of the economy, which entails drastic changes in consumer behavior of residents of developed and developing countries. Strengthening horizontal ties in society allows people to optimize consumer spending and significantly improve the quality of life, using the principles of shared consumption. Thanks to online services, consumers do not need to purchase a product to get access to it. The availability of goods and services increases both in terms of cost and speed of delivery. In this context, the authors analyze the features of development of the economy of shared consumption, revealing the presented direction from a theoretical point of view. The paper defines the reasons for development of this economic phenomenon, and considers factors that have direct impact on its development. The authors identify the stages of development of the sharing economy, as well as characterize the main demographic indicators. The article discusses the main industries where this phenomenon of economy is implemented. The main tools for screening users and providing financial guarantees are listed.
