The article considers the possibility of recreating the language environment for native speakers of the Sami language with the help of media. The media in this study is understood in a broad sense as the totality of all mass communication media (print, audio-visual, Internet) and their products. The author summarizes the opinions of Sami scientists and journalists on the problems and prospects of learning the Sami language, expressed at the Sami Media Festival 2021, and formulates a conclusion about the great potential of the media for practicing language skills by native speakers of the Sami language. As part of the scientific group of Murmansk Arctic State University, the author conducted field research among native speakers of the Sami language in their place of compact residence in Lovozero in May 2022. The results of the survey of Sami respondents confirmed the need to create a linguistic media environment for the revitalization of the Sami language and made it possible to clarify which media resources are most in demand by the younger generation of Sami. The paper evaluates the Russian Sami media: the newspaper “Lovozerskaya Pravda”, the Kola Sami radio, the Internet sites “Russian Sami” and “Kola Sápmi”, the most popular Lovozersk groups on “VKontakte” in terms of their use as a language environment. It turns out that the analyzed resources do not participate in the maintenance of the Sami language, although some have the potential for this. In addition, the Sami have no media suitable for a teenage audience. The author gives an example of successful media in the Komi language as a model for Sami youth media, describes a portrait of the popular media in the language of indigenous peoples and concludes about the potential of existing media resources.
