INCREASING THE MOTIVATION OF COLLEGE STUDENTS TO STUDY THE DISCIPLINE “LIFE SAFETY” TAKING INTO ACCOUNT LEARNERS’ INTERESTS

Annotation:

The article is devoted to the analysis of the problems that arise when teaching the discipline “Life Safety” to students of institutions of secondary vocational education (on the example of the college of the Ural State University of Economics). Since this discipline is one of the non-core ones, teachers often have to face the problem of increasing the internal motivation of the trainees to study the subject, since modern youth is characterized by a pragmatic approach to obtaining knowledge. It is proven that a sufficiently high level of efficiency in teaching the discipline is achievable, provided that active teaching methods are used and the opinions of the students themselves are taken into account. The results of a survey conducted among 1st and 2nd year college students demonstrate a fairly high satisfaction with the level of teaching and the knowledge gained. At the same time, the students identified as the most important, from their point of view, such topics as “Providing first aid”, “Surviving in extreme circumstances in natural conditions” and “Improving financial literacy — protection against fraud”. In addition, the respondents proposed to include sections on the provision of psychological assistance, the ability to communicate, the rights of minors and ways to protect them in the course of the taught discipline. Taking into account the increase in the overall level of risk in the modern world, and the fact that a significant part of the respondents are fond of extreme sports and tourism, it should be recognized that teaching the discipline “Life Safety” is certainly useful not only from the point of view of the formation of theoretical knowledge about extreme situations, but also practical skills of behavior in specific conditions.
