The article presents the results of the analysis of the main trends, problems and prospects of development of export of meat and meat products of the Altai Territory, which is the largest agro‑industrial region of Russia. The aim of this work is the study of export potential and assessment of the meat industry of the Altai Territory opportunities in entering the foreign markets in the context of increasing non‑resource exports of Russia. The paper analyzes the conditions supporting transition of the industry to import substitution and development of export of the products of deeper processing. The detailed assessment of the level of development of meat production in the Altai Territory is conducted; the current trends and challenges are highlighted, which not only makes it difficult for the export operation of the industry, but also reduces the self‑sufficiency of the domestic market and the country meat products. Methods of logical, expert, statistical, qualitative and quantitative analysis were used in the research. It is concluded that the prospects for development of export of meat products are mainly associated with the most capacious and dynamically growing Asian markets, geographically closer to the producers of the Altai Territory. The work presents analysis of the largest Asian meat markets development in terms of specific types of product. The authors consider it necessary to take into account the national and confessional characteristics that form the demand for meat products in the Asian region. The paper outlines the necessary conditions for support of the meat products export, without which it is difficult to expect the planned result. A serious barrier to supplies to Asian countries is the requirements for certification in accordance with Islamic traditions, so the meat industry enterprises of the Altai territory will need to carry out some modernization of production and obtaine special certification.
