The energy needs of mankind are increasing every year, which is due not only to an increase in the population, but also to the active development of industry. In the XXI century, industrial production is gaining unprecedented momentum and consumes more than 90 % of the world’s energy, at the same time there are problems with the quality of energy resources and their impact on the sustainable situation of territories. To solve these global problems, it is necessary to make a transition to a green economy, which is based on the use of renewable energy. Simultaneously with the need to make such a transition, a number of difficulties arise in determining the economic feasibility of developing green energy as part of the energy-producing system of the national economy. The purpose of this work is to analyze the economic aspects of the development of green energy. It is proposed to determine the main directions and prospects for the development of renewable energy, as well as to study the features and problems of forming strategies for Russia’s transition to green energy. In particular, the article describes the advantages of introducing innovative technologies in the energy sector, which can significantly reduce the negative impact on the environment, prevent the depletion of natural resources and create a springboard for increasing the competitiveness of the national economy by reducing the use of carbon raw materials. As a result, it was revealed that measures to create domestic green energy are not sufficiently developed, but their development in the future will allow to obtain significant positive economic effects. From the point of view of the authors, it is necessary to pay attention to the process of creating and implementing renewable energy technologies in order to avoid serious lagging behind global trends and maintain stability in the environment and society.
