The relevance of the development of independence of the flight crew in the issue of improving physical training is determined both by the specific working conditions of the flight crew and the conditions for training cadets, which are characterized, among other things, by a reduction in the time allotted to physical training, the limited role of an instructor-methodologist who is not able to control every cadet`s physical activity. Project activities are proposed as a means of developing the independence of the flight crew in terms of improving physical fitness, because project activity implies a targeted solution of a specific problem in a limited amount of time, including through self-education, with the gradual transfer of responsibility for the result to the student himself. The features of the educational environment, the subjects of training and the requirements imposed on them, as well as the very means of developing independence in the matter of improving physical fitness, that determine the specifics of methodological approaches to the corresponding training and contribute to the conceptual construction of a pedagogical model in further research, are disclosed. In the process of theoretical research, the following methodological approaches were identified and substantiated: axiological, optimization, anthropological, personality-oriented, and activity-based. The specificity of the implementation of these approaches in relation to the development of the independence of the flight crew in the issue of improving physical training is given. On the basis of methodological approaches to training and the specifics of the development of the independence of the flight crew in the issue of improving physical training, the following private specific pedagogical principles of developing independence in improving the physical training of the flight crew by means of project activities are identified: awareness and purposefulness, personal responsibility for the result, the principle of free choice of the physical training program.
