The article deals with the emergence and development of choral art in China. The historical context makes it possible to trace the stages of development of choral art and performance, to connect them with significant events in the life of Chinese society. The social role of choral music in China over the past 100 years lies precisely in the fact that it fulfilled various historical missions in different periods of the existence of the state, promoted various themes of modernity, and emphasized patriotism and collectivism. The effective development of Chinese choral art, including the creation of children’s choral music, is an important part of choral performance, making it the most powerful weapon of cultural propaganda and agitation. It embodies the distinctive features of China, reflects the special national conditions, which is the most important social feature of choral music in China in the last century. Popularization of knowledge about the choir, promotion of the activities of the mass choir, raising the level of choral art, international exchange of choral art contributed to the active development of mass singing activities in the People’s Republic of China. This was facilitated by the creation of choral societies as amateur public organizations that played an important role in the development of Chinese choral art. The associations organize various international, national and regional choral festivals and choral competitions. The paper outlines the prospects for further growth of choral creativity and musical pedagogy: overcoming utilitarianism and expanding the scope of the functioning of choral art in China, which will strengthen the artistic aspects of choral performance and choir conducting, as well as international relations with the creators of choral music and famous choral groups.
