Currently, participants in the transport industry around the world are actively implementing and using digital technology tools to create a vehicle product. The actual development of this sector of the national economy in the Russian Federation occurs with a «retarded» effect, in comparison with other developed countries. However, the ongoing dynamic activity on the application of innovations in the transport system contributes to accelerating the pace of digitalization. As part of the study, using certain modern methods of scientific knowledge, an analysis was made of the current state of the digital development of the transport industry in the international and separately in the regional context, through which the difference in the digital capabilities of the country’s regions was determined, due to the width of the technological gap of the regions. Considering the foregoing, the authors put forward a hypothesis about the impossibility of implementing the full digitalization of the transport industry at the national level until the “technological gap” of some regional entities is reduced. Given the territorial scale of the Russian Federation, this issue is of particular importance for the scientific community. In addition, the most effective technological solutions used by the participants of the transport system, based on two fundamental groups of transport information and communication technologies, have been identified: logistics and product digital technologies. The study also made a cumulative assessment of the generated effect from the use of digital information and communication technologies in the considered economic sector. Based on the results of the scientific work, the need for cooperation between the efforts of commercial transport manufacturing enterprises, government organizations and scientific institutions in order to achieve the greatest positive synergistic effect in the process of introducing these innovations was determined.
