The article studies the problem of pedagogical staff management in the institution of the state system of secondary specialized and secondary vocational education on the example of the regional multiprofile technical school. The current state of socio-psychological climate in the team and the influence of the role of management is assessed. The factors influencing the formation of climate and the special importance of managerial and personal qualities of the leader are considered. The study is based on empirical data obtained by the authors in the course of studying the staff composition and the conducted questionnaire. The analysis of teaching staff allowed identifying the leading age category with its peculiarities, and the results of the questionnaire — to determine the indicators of the current state of socio-psychological climate in the team and identify the main problems. A number of well-known techniques were used, as well as a questionnaire developed by the authors on the influence of the personality of the manager on the climate in the organization. The indicators demonstrated the presence of serious problems with manageability and labor discipline. The low level of group cohesion and general pessimistic attitude of teachers were revealed. It was found that, according to the respondents, the main causes of conflicts are the organization of work and non-interference of the management. Taking into account the peculiarities and identified needs of the leading age group in the team, in order to improve the quality of the socio-psychological climate, it is advisable to simultaneously launch changes related to the organization of teachers’ work and increase the authority of the head. Maintaining a balance between demanding and controlling the fulfillment of tasks, on the one hand, and taking into account their needs, on the other hand, will allow the manager to bring his formal and informal leadership status in line, and the demonstration of personal professional attitude to work will serve to strengthen the authority, giving a new impetus to the development of the entire teaching staff of the technical school.
